The Stress Management Guide

Less Stress = More Fun!

My BF is 41 years old, but he’s a healthy weight, doesn’t smoke or drink. He recently had a treadmill stress test and when he called in for the results, the nurse said the doctor wants to see him. If everything was okay they would have said so, right? Does it mean he may have a heart problem?

He probably wants to give you the results in person.
Most doctors will not give results over the phone due to security of patient confidentiality.

I have a stress test scheduled this week. I’ve had this test done a couple of months ago and the respiratory therapist asked me to remove my shirt so that he could stick these sensors on my skin which are connected to a computer. I then need to pedal on a bicycle for a couple of minutes. It’s embarassing. I wonder is there a way I could complete this test without those sensors stuck to my chest?

they gotta have them on to monitor ur heart but if you uncomfortable ask if a hospital grown

I’m going to have a stress test in a few days and am a little nervous. What do they have you do? What can I expect to happen?

They hook you up to an EKG machine and make you run on a treadmill. The duration and speed depends on your age. MAKE SURE YOUR CARDIOLOGIST IS PRESENT. Don’t ket some teckh do it, in case something happens.

I’m 29 weeks & have to start getting non stress tests each week now. My OB dr didn’t really give me details about what this test means, how it is performed, how long it takes etc. He just said something about checking the fetal heart rate. I am a high risk pregnancy w/ high blood pressure so it has me kind of worried. Has anyone else had this test done & what are the details? Thanks!

How long it takes depends on if your baby is active during the time of the test. They monitor the baby’s heart rate, any contractions, and you have a button to press every time the baby moves. The first one I had lasted 4 hours because it was scheduled during a time the baby was sleeping, but on average, they lasted any where from 30 min-1 hour.

What happens after the non stress test has anyone had one and do they deliver the baby after?

i had one at 39 weeks and it was just to check babies heartbeat to make sure she was fine after i met the requirements i could go home which was disapointing as i was hoping they would say they would induce me then instead i had to go 2 weeks over before being induced

I went to the hospital the other day with chest pains,They decided to keep me and give me a stress test because I thought I was having a heart attack They gave me the treadmill stress test then was sent home and I"m having the same pain and tightness in my chest. And I"m having dizzy and light headiness. What should I do?

You go back. Any and all episodes of dizziness and light-headedness need medical evaluation. What did they tell you at the time of the stress test? What was the outcome? When you go back, say you just had a stress test but you don’t know the outcome. That will tell them to order another test, and to look up the results of the stress test. You really do have to go back and be re-evaluated. You can’t ignore this just because you didn’t get an answer the other day. The best time to go is RIGHT NOW, while your symptoms are active. Don’t drive yourself. Call 911.

What is the relationship between the height and the stress test?

Hi Agnes,
I do not believe there is a direct link.
Rather people who make the test want this data for their records for further analysis.

About 1 month ago I went for a stress test at a Specialist Centre. The doctor after examining the result of the stress test done, told me that the result is not good . He suggested that I go for an angiogram.

Actually, the angiogram is supposed to be the best way to find blockages in the arteries of the heart. It allows the cardiologist to see exactly where the problem areas are and what would be the best way of treating them. Sometimes the cardiologist can treat them at the same time, such as by placing a stent. Here is some more information about the procedure:

I hope it goes well.

I’m scheduled to do a cardio stress test and I’m wondering how long it usually takes, what kind of exercises it consists of, how strenuous it is…etc. I’m really nervous about it and I don’t know why, but I’m having second thoughts about going through with it now.
Stupid, I know. :( Can I wear sweatpants and a T-shirt while having it done or do they put you in one of those stupid gowns? lol

I just had one on Thursday. They say to arrive at the heart lab about a half n hour early. then another 15 minutes to set you up with the wires. Then your on the treadmill for 6 minutes. Next the cardiologist will review the test and then you dress up and go home.

**** update being a woman I had to take off my shirt, but I kept my pants. The gown was covered most of the time. They try to keep your body modetly covered up as much as they can. They are professionals so they are use to body parts.

You will do fine. There are two technicians and even a doctor in the room. Good Luck.

Doctors do the cardiac catheterization and nuclear stress test and taking picture of the heart used dye perform that procedure if your kidneys are damaged. and want damage will it caused ? theydo have the knowledge of kidney is dmage before doing the test?

They do have that information - it is part of your blood work done prior to these procedures. They have to weight the risks versus the benefits of getting a proper diagnosis and their goal is to do no harm. There are different dyes they can select depending on each pt’s condition.
